Abstract:Through comparing the growth rates of economy with only bank financing system and economy where both bank and financial market exist, we study the growth effect of financial structure in an endogenous growth model in the presence of loss aversion. We show a negative growth effect of introducing market financing to the economy with only bank finance. In the transition towards BGP, our model also indicates a capital stock threshold above which changing to a financial structure with both bank and market has an adverse impact on the economic growth; while below which this financial structure change may exert a positive effect on economic growth.
