摘要：We compare social welfare between proportional and unit fees, assuming that there is no change in the total patent licensing fees from China's smartphone market. We divide consumers into four groups by their income. Under the unit fee, consumer welfare deteriorates in each income group; firm profits go down; the social welfare gets worse off. Our findings explain why most licensing contracts include royalties based on the value of the product rather the minimum saleable unit.

简历：周晓岚博士现为华东师范大学经济与管理学部经济学院的研究员、紫江青年学者，美国耶鲁大学经济学博士， 武汉大学经济学和数学学士。研究方向为实证产业组织、实证微观经济学。研究内容包括反垄断、各种产业政策、价格歧视等，涉及包括银行、汽车、互联网市场、通讯等多个产业。在国际著名学术期刊发表论文多篇，包括Rand Journal of Economics, International Economic Review, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Journal of Industrial Economics, International Journal of Industrial Origination等。
